Toyota Motor Manufacturing, USA, Inc. Essay Example for Free

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, USA, Inc. Essay 1.If you were Doug Friesen, where would you focus attention and what would you do to address the seat problem? One of the first things that I would do is to determine if the process that is being used to solve the problems with defective seats is the best method to use, especially since it doesnt follow the TPS method of stopping production, trying to figure out why the problem occurred and how to prevent it from happening again, fixing the defect, and restraining production. Also, I would take a look at the communication between the seat supplier, Kentucky Framed Seat (KFS) and the plant, if there a miscommunication of some sort. One other issue to be looked at is why the cars are sitting in the overflow parking lot for so long. KFS was making special deliveries of new seats twice a day, but there were cars with defective seats still sitting in the lot for over four days. Another issue that also must be looked at is the problem caused by cross-threading and the breaking of the hook, also the deliveries of wrong seats by KFS. I would also go to the KFS plant and watch the production lines and see if there are any easily noticeable problems. Then I can go and watch the team who installs the seats and make sure there are no problems there. Overall I will need to find the root of the problem. 2.What options exist? What would you recommend and why?One solution to the problem could be that employees can spend more time on installing the seats in the way they would fit, the bolt through the hook with more caution. Another option could be to redesign the seat to resolve the problem with the breaking of the hook. Even though Mr. Friesen has looked into this and found out that it would cost KFS $50,000 to redesign the seat, the question is how long it would take to recover that cost and is it really worth it. A third option could be to rework the off-line process since something needs to be done to reduce the number of cars sitting at the overflow lot for a long time. Last but not least, Mr. Friesen could adjust the seat assembly team by determining if there are any new employees, any changes in the processes or if more training that needs to be done. 3. What is the real problem facing Doug Friesen? The real problem is the fact  that the cars are sitting in the overflow lot for too long which is causing a 10% drop off in run ratio from 95% to 85% which is very significant and it causes a shortfall of 45 cars per shift thus making overtime a necessity to meet their goals. There appears to be a problem with handling the cars through the off-line process. Mr. Friesen needs to determine whether the increase in the number of cars sitting in the lot is caused by the process used for defective seats, the overall off-line process, or the suppliers ability to meet Toyotas standards and needs. Also, the production process as a whole contributes to the seat problem because currently the plant is overloaded and the workers suffer from overtime. Toyota would have a very hard time succeeding if this problem continues to slow down their production times and a solution needs to be worked out quickly and effectively.

Benefits of a particular spreadsheet Essay

Benefits Potential Refinements In the spreadsheet there are a few refinements that could be changed in the spreadsheet including the graph, but then these are also little minor refinements that can be changed to make this spreadsheet more potentially better. First off all the graph could have been changed or even a new graph could be added in on the spreadsheet. Maybe some people can’t see the difference in a bar graph or can’t tell what the information can tell, so maybe another graph could be added like a pie chart or a line graph. This way people can tell which coach is better in price. Also the graph could have the number of coaches needed and how many coaches are available at that time of the day. Finally the graph can also have the details of the coaches, so when the user decides on which coach to use they can contact them and confirm their details. So over all the spreadsheet has many benefits than potential refinements that need doing, but on the over hand the refinements are not major errors on the spreadsheet.

Surrealism And Unrealism In Reronne Magrittes Golconda

In Rene Magritte’s Golconda, a painting made in 1953, which is now on display at the Menil collection in Houston, Texas, the artist uses surrealism to capture the boring routine life of the suburban environment. Magritte is famously known for his use of bowler hats, possibly to depict a working man of importance and class, here, he reduces the businessman to a mere pattern alongside many others. This brings forward alienation and the emotion of isolation-both of which are described by Marxist and existential philosophy. Renà © Franà §ois Ghislain Magritte was a Belgian surrealist artist who liked to challenge viewer’s preconditioned perceptions of reality. Surrealism developed its popularity around the turn of the last century. It consisted†¦show more content†¦This image is thought to be a source of many of Magritte’s paintings. One of his most famous paintings, Golconda, is a good example of his perception between ordinary and mystery. This art piece was named by his friend, after the city of Golkonda. It is famous for once being a very rich city for mining some of the world’s most famous gems. It is possible that it was named this as a play on wealth in suburbs and how boring it has become. Rich business men living in expensive suburbs wearing suits and bowler hats could not produce something as beautiful as the diamonds produced in Golkonda. As tribute for naming the work of art Magritte placed his friend in the foreground of the painting near the chimney on the right. The painting depicts a suburban environment, one similar to to where he lived, with a partly cloudy sky. Men dressed in dark coats and bowler hats, which were common clothes of bankers and businessmen, are shown throughout the painting from left to right and top to bottom. They are present in the foreground, middleground, and backgro und spread out and evenly distributed becoming more anonymous as they subside into the distance. No one can tell if they are either rising or falling because there is no sense of motion. So it can only be assumed that the men are hovering ambiguously in space. The clear blue sky acts as proof that they are not â€Å"raining† down. The men also

The Period Of A Child s Development - 864 Words

The period of a child’s development is a critical time in their life. Their intellectual, physical, emotional, and social aspects develop during this time and can be easily influenced by those in the present environment. Our class was given the opportunity to observe Micah recorded at 3 years old and then again at 5. In the videos, he had just reached the pre-operational period and how he is fully immersed in it. The major development I noticed during the observations was Micah’s physical and motor development as well as his advanced autonomy. According to Erickson, toddlers acquire an aspiration to complete tasks by themselves in their environment labeled as autonomy. In the video, he sought to take out the blocks by himself and claimed to cleaning up a certain toy by himself. However, it was much more prevalent today. He insisted on putting the toys down, picking which ‘friends’ he wanted to play with, and switching on and off the lights. When asked if h e needed help, he simply responded with no, he could do it. It was displayed that those influencing his actions appropriately encouraged his autonomous behavior with enforced self-control. Micah’s gross and fine motor skills were predominately shown at both ages, but there was obvious progress made at the time between the two. At the age of 3, his motor skills were suitable for his age. He played with largely sized blocks and cars. Today, he was seen playing with tiny Legos sized for older ages and board games, whichShow MoreRelatedThe influence of the Absorbent Mind, and the Sensitive Periods on the childs development of movement, language and social skills.1448 Words   |  6 PagesSensitive period and illustrate the influence of these periods on the child s development of movement, language and social skills. Context is all Margaret Atwood Essay Example For Students

Context is all Margaret Atwood Essay Taking another example as to how there could be different interpretation to a similar act is the example of the killing of the famous navigator Ferdinand Magellan who died because of shaking hand to a tribesman who took it as a challenge to come to war. For example in mathematics, there is stream called probability where there is calculation of the uncertainty of the event occurring and therefore it always lies in between 0 and 1 but if the probability is 0 then the event is not possible and if it is 1 then it is certain. As we know that probability of an event is defined only between 0 and 1 therefore the probability of an event occurring can be either greater than 0 and less then 1 which defines the context of the theory. We now arrive at a conclusion that any statement to be true has to pertain to the Platos test for truth. We could then state that the statement is true. These sorts of statements are what we call as Eternal or Absolute truth, but as we saw earlier that to define a statement that has a mixed reaction about its validity, a context is very important to be defined so that the statement is true. These statements are what I term as contextual truth where any changes in the context of the statement would result in the statement being falsified for example there is a majority of Hindus this statement is incomplete as it can only be true for some region which would be the context of the statement, therefore the statement should be rephrased by saying that there is a majority of Hindus in the Indian sub-continent. Lastly, I would like to conclude by saying that a statement that is true eternally will remain true irrespective of the frame of reference, which is nothing but the context of statement. Many a time statements are true for only a particular reference which means that the context in those statement is all that draws the line between its acceptance as truth and its rejection. Change is a changeless law this statement is a very paradoxical statement as we know that change is inevitable but this cant be applied to this statement as it would stand as an exception. Taking another example space is indestructible this statement is also true as space can never be destroyed but on the other hand we know that there are philosophical believes of spaces curves which would mean that the universe too has a shape and therefore it has a beginning. There is also another philosophical belief that everything that has a beginning has an end and therefore these statements to be true have to be defined in a particular context or a frame of reference. I therefore believe that the statement context is all doesnt support the proposition that there is something called truth that is absolute and beyond any frame of reference known to the human knowledge of the universe and therefore it doesnt pass the second criteria of Platos test of a true justified belief.
